4.6 Circle Properties

4.6.1 Recognise the terms ‘centre’, ‘radius’, ‘chord’, ‘diameter’, ‘circumference’, ‘tangent’, ‘arc’, ‘sector’ and ‘segment’ of a circle

A chord is a line segment joining two points on the circumference of a circle.

A line segment drawn from the centre of a circle to the midpoint of a chord will intersect the chord at right angles.

A tangent is a straight line that touches a circle only once.

A tangent and radius meet at right angle.

4.6.2 Understand chord and tangent properties of circles

4.6.3 Understand and use the internal and external intersecting chord properties (Higher Tier Only)

4.6.4 Recognise the term ‘cyclic quadrilateral’ (Higher Tier Only)

4.6.5 Understand and use angle properties of the circle including: (Higher Tier Only)
