7.2.10 Explain why nuclear fusion does not happen at low temperatures and pressures, due to electrostatic repulsion of protons
- Because protons have a positive charge, they repel each other
- Thus two small nuclei will repel each other
- In order to overcome the force of repulsion, high energy is required
- Thus high temperature and pressure is needed for nuclear fusion to occur
